Some of the best club nights and dj sets of 2008

Here is a collection of some of the best clubs nights/dj sets of 2008. The list is not in any order.  The list mainly consists Drum n Bass nights or DJ sets but there’s a few other genres in there.  It will hopefully give you some idea on what or who to look out for in 2009!

Enjoy

Dj Marky b2b Andy C 6hr Set @ The End 19/09/2008.

Probably 2 of the biggest names in drum n bass going b2b for 6 hours, what more could you want!

Rupture

Not much has to be said about Rupture, they have hosted 4 nights in 2008, all being absolutely amazing, just check out some of the line ups, the names do the talking – Double O, Mantra, D-Bridge, Bailey, Breakage, Seba, Doc Scott, Bizzy B, Equinox, Dub One, Storm, Digital, Trace, Loxy, Alix Perez, Bailey, Randall and so many more.

After moving to Corsica Studios earlier in the year you could tell Rupture were on to something special.  The vibes at Rupture are some of the best you will find, everybody having a good time, smiling, drinking and generally going crazy!

Expect smooth rolling sets, hard amen mashup sets and a nice bit of old skool jungle thrown in for the last set and you know your in for a night.

Oh and did i mention Corsica studios is fully kitted out with the Funktion 1 sound system and boy does it pack a punch.  I personally would give Rupture my number one spot for best club night of 2008 and also Corsica studios for best sound system.

Carbon @ The Volks Club

Carbon is DJ Insight & Voytek’s monthly Drum n Bass club night down in Brighton it has had quality line ups month after month and is probably one of the most consistent in terms of quality beats in the dnb scene and is definitely not a night to miss.

2008 Lineup has seen DJ & Artists such as – Breakage, Klute, Randall, Equinox, Digital, D-Bridge, Flight, Spirit, Calyx, Gremlinz, Nolige, Sabre, Lynx, Vapour, Instra:Mental, Theory , Saburuko plus many more

2009 doesnt slow down either.  February 13th 2009 sees Paradox playing his ONLY UK date @ Carbon and also Breakage, definitely not to be missed!

CARBONS EARLY DAYS

Bangface Weekender 2008

It has a cult-like following, and is up to its 63rd party! Bangface is THE mashup weekender of  the year.  Expect to hear a mashup of Jungle, Breakcore, Rave, Electro, Techno and anything else to send you off this planet.

2009 weekender has been annouced check out the line up here.

Trentemoller at The Big Chill 2008

Shogun Audio vs Metalheadz

Two names everyone should know, two of the leading labels (Metalheadz | Shogun Audio) in the dnb scene under one roof for a very special b2b night.

Friday 15th Feburary 2008 saw Friction going b2b with the Legendary Goldie, Doc Scott b2b ‘The Daddy’ Randall, Commix b2b Alix Perez & Break b2b Icicle @ The End.  A very special night indeed.

Shog (98)

Equinox b2b Dub One @ Rupture 2nd Birthday

We wanted amen and thats exactly what we got, for me personally, this was probably the best set ive ever heard in a club.  The onslaught of amen was just breath taking.  I literally could not believe how insane a set could be!  But then again what did i expect from the guys from Scientific Wax.

Technicality

The long running monthly night for lovers of ‘Beats and Strings’.  Technicality is home to the Inperspective Records camp which has released some of the best drum n bass in recent years, ASC’s – Windchime (which people are still demanding be repressed!), Equinox’s – Filteration, Senses – Darker Self and the almighty ACID RAIN (plus the breakage remix)!!

Tucked away in the cozy, snug Room One club down Edgware road this is the monthly night you know you’re gona hear some beats!

Brainfeeder vs Warp Warehouse Party – Hearne St – London

This was the launch of Flying Lotus’ highly acclaimed debut album on Warp Records, Los Angles.  FlyLo didnt just bring himself over from LA but his whole crew includingy,  including Gas Lamp KillerSamiyam, Ras G, Take and,  from New York City, José James, Rustie and Hudson Mohawke!  From the UK side – Digital Mystikz, Kode9 and Danny Breaks.

Autopsy @ Volks, Brighton

Another night for consistent quality lineups, Autopsy caters for those liking their beats on the dark side.

The ‘Therapy’ of Brighton, its regular nights have hosted the talents of dj/artists such as Current Value, Gremlinz, Donny, Mantra, Dylan, Resound, Bekah, Gein, Nekrosis, DJ E.  This is definitely worth the trip from Essex for me!! (i just wish Gramps Hi-Fi would come back)

Dylan – Xmas Therapy 17th December 2008

Before moving out to LA to mingle with the REAL stars of the world Dylan treated us to a set what we alll remember therapy to be…..PURE GRIME!!

An onslaught of amen with a few dirty rollers for us to catch our breath kept the crowd bouncing around for the whole hour. If only every therapy I’d been to was like this.

Lowqui’s leaving party @ Plan B

Probably the best lineup you will ever see for a thursday night! Before leaving for a new life in Australia MC Lowqui said goodbye in true style, check out the lineup below.

Fabio, Goldie b2b Storm, dBridge b2b Commix, Dom & Roland b2b Klute, Bailey b2b A-Sides (JUNGLE SET), Artificial Intelligence b2b TC1, Sabre B2b Alix Perez, Marcus Intalex (Techno)Techno)
John B (electro), Skream (Dubstep), Nookie (Old Skool House), Zero T (Hip Hop), Craggz (House), DJ J (House), Subterra b2b Healing Crew and of course Stu on the Sax.

I expect London saw a 37% increase in absences from work the next day due to this party!!

All proceeds went to Macmillan Cancer Support, so all in all a bloody good job boys and girls.

Help at Plastic People they usually get quite a crowd in their and as always the vibes are spot on!
