[Preview] Dfrnt does Drum and Bass – November 2010
Dfrnt is a name some might already be familiar with. Part of the superb echodub collective and an accomplished producer in his own right, his productions at the deeper, more ambient end of the dubstep spectrum (see here for example) have earned him plaudits from all corners of the electronic music scene and rightly so.
He has, however, recently embarked on a foray into 170bpm territory as well with two tracks recently upped to his soundcloud. He’s no stranger to d&b having unofficially remixed origin unknowns classic track ‘valley of the shadows’, and these two tracks keep the feel and ambience of his 140 productions but at a higher tempo and obvious comparisons can be made to the autonomic sound of asc, instra:mental, d:bridge and others. Here’s hoping this excursion into d&b has a little way to run yet….
