It has been a decade since Will Holland aka Quantic released his first album on Tru Thoughts. Guru, the rapper from Gangstarr has been confirmed to have died from a battle with cancer.

I was very shocked to read this news, Gangstarr is one of my favourite groups ever and there are so many classic tracks from them.

Ill post my favourite track ‘The Squeeze’…..rest in peace.

Amazing tape from the ‘real Hip-Hop’ renaissance (read also ‘emergence of the backpacker’) that happened in the latter half of the 90′s, spearheaded by labels like Rawkus, Stones Throw etc. Some great tracks including a non-album cut from Black Star, and something from Scaramanga’s (aka Sir Menelik) off-the-radar classic ‘Seven Eyes Seven Horns‘.

Fat Lace was a bloody funny fanzine from some moonlighting HHC writers, chock full of anorak-ish old school worship and puerile irreverence (I remember they did a Biggie ‘autopsy’ based on old board game Operation that landed them in some drama).  STOP PRESS: it seems FL are back as a blog.

And excuse the coffee stain on the cover scan; that’s realness right there.
